Today's Discussion

We have dark brown (expresso) coffee/end tables. Would brown leather sofas look good or would a creme color?

brown

You can build a scheme around either of those options. Choose the one you like best and work from it.

I think I would go with the brown leather sofa. Chances are it will be in a different shade anyway and would give you a nice continuous look. I think the contrast of cream would look choppy. You can bring in color with a nice area rug to anchor the furniture and by adding something to your coffee table and a picture above your sofa. I am assuming you will be putting lamps on the end tables, so stay with the browns. It will give your space a larger look. And the brown needs less cleaning. Lots of luck.

The brown sofas would be fine. I agree with chillin' that its going to be easier to not see smudges or dirt on the brown. You could do the "creme" color on your walls.

The brown would be your best bet. Not only will the room flow easier with the brown than with the creme, but you will find that sooner or later, the creme gets dirty. Leather is a porous material and has many very tiny cracks and crevices. These fill with everyday dust and dirt and are hard to keep clean. Add some creme accents elsewhere in the room to lighten it all up. To have complete color harmony in the room, you'll need to add a 3rd color... You can choose this color from another object that you will be keeping in the room, such as a painting, a rug, cushions, a vase, etc. If you're looking for a color suggestion, turquoise would look fantastic, as would a nice cranberry red. Burnt pumpkin could do the trick too. It's up to you... Also, don't forget that you'll need to anchor all your colors together by using something black in the room. This can be as simple as a picture frame, a lamp, a vase, a candle, etc. Hope this helps you solve your dilemma!

I think either or would look nice but it also depends on your wall color

I have a cream living room with brown furniture and brown leather sofas and I love it! I have a feature wall using a much lighter brown so the room doesn't look too dark, and cream carpets (although they are hard to keep clean) and a really rich, dark brown rug.
