What You Should Know About Mission Style Lamps
Mission Style lamps were originally developed during a decorating period, called the Arts and Crafts movement, in the later part of the 1800's.
This movement was confined to the United States and Britain and became very popular in these two countries.
It is considered a contemporary style that is very popular today and offers many designs for many different kinds of furniture, including lamps.
Mission Style lamps are both functional and decorative, and use a production design that uses flaws as part of the design. The bases are typically handcrafted, however, some are mass-produced.
Unlike most mass-productions, though, these bases are typically hand-crafted in their form, and painted or stained by machine. Most lamp shades from this period do not use frills and pleats, but prefer to be more simplistic, yet beautiful.
Mission Style lamps are designed in different designs, from floor lamps to side table lamps, as well as wall mounted swing-arm lamps and ceiling light fixtures.
Most modern manufacturers of Mission Style based designed lamps still hold true to the fundamental concepts of the design, using the elements of line and handcrafted designs to make quality Mission Style lamps that are both beautiful and affordable.
