There are several reasons why a homeowner might want to purchase Murphy bed plans.

To begin with, they are fairly easy to follow and most folks who have done any woodworking should have no problem completing the project.

Second, building your own Murphy bed can save you hundreds, even thousands of dollars. But we have gotten a bit ahead of ourselves here.

For those of you who have never heard of them, a Murphy bed is simply a fold-out out bed.

But instead of unfolding from under sofa cushions, it folds down from a closet or bookcase. This means that a Murphy bed is actually a real bed that does not fold up into smaller sections or have an uncomfortable bar in the middle of it.

Why use a Murphy bed? In a small apartment, a Murphy bed can serve as the main bed, and in an extra room, they can be fold down to create instant guest quarters.

The modern Murphy bed is actually quite attractive and can be concealed in bookcases or closets.

Murphy bed plans can be purchased for only a few hundred dollars on the internet and often include the basic plans and the hardware you will need to assemble the bed.

But remember, you will still have to purchase the actual bed and the lumber needed to complete the job. Most Murphy bed planss recommend a sturdy and attractive wood like red oak for your project.

Here are two of several choices. I doubt you will end up with a cheaper set of hardware than you can get from Rockler.com. Mine works great.
