Today's Discussion

My uncle passed and the 4 people i work with bought me a big pasta basket....?
I bought 4 thank you cards to give them. Should I include a 5 dollar gift card to dunkin donuts? Everyone in my office goes there regularly. I thought it might be a nice gesture. What do you think?

No, just the thank you cards. People typically don't respond to a gift with a gift.

Nancy Kay
No need to return the favor in such a way. One does not return gifts in appreciation for condolence gifts of food. The thank you cards are enough.

Ducky
A thank you card is plenty. Once we sent our neighbors a thank you card with a gift, and they sent us a thank you for thanking them, with a gift. It was odd, but nice. Not needed though.

I say yes, do it. That is so thoughtful on your part. You know they like to go to Dunkin Donuts, and $5 is a nice gesture, not really a gift. And it shows you are thinking of them and their generosity.

Yeah that sounds really nice! That was thoughtful of them to think of you and reach out and now you are showing perfect proper etiquette with the thank you notes. The gift card is just an added bonus. I am sure they will appreciate it very much
