When And How to Use Pin Nailers

pin nailers

Pin Nailers are probably one of the smallest, if not the smallest tools, available today. They are used for jobs the larger tools cannot handle.

Jobs like affixing small moldings to furniture, walls, cabinet doors, and so forth. It operates much like any nail gun.

This is a tiny hand-held air-pressure gun. When you put trim on anything there is a risk of damage. But with this tool, the nails shot into the molding leave very tiny holes that are easily sealed and hidden, far less noticeable than using a larger nailer.

Using a pin nailer will have the job done quickly and completely before you realize it. Without the risk of damage that may be caused by a larger nail gun using larger nails that leaving bigger holes in the trim.

Carpenters and anyone working with wood have recognized the benefits of using pin nailers. Concealing the nail holes is much less work as the holes are almost invisible to begin with.

Thus the damage that is caused by using larger nails is eliminated. Using Pin Nailers will give you the same benefits and a professional looking job.

Why did I wait so long to buy a pin nailer? This tool is very handy. I chose PC because of their reputation, Price, the top vent, narrow tip. The dual triggers,(safety + fire) is kind of funky but with time I'm sure I will get used to. It had no ... Read More

Using a 23 gauge pin nailer to hang crown?
I hung crown in my bathroom this last weekend. I used a 23 gauge pin nailer (1 1/4") to hang the crown, then I used latex caulk on the gaps to seal them and hold the crown to the wall. Will this support the crown properly in this room (6 feet by 4 feet). Will this work for larger (16 foot) sections? Should I switch to an 18 gauge finish nailer, and what size nails should I use?

Hello, The length of the nails is determined by the size of the crown due to the way crown sits on the wall/ceiling. I suspect that yours is being held on more by the caulking than the fasteners. I would use 2 1/2 inch nails, but not pin nails, which don't have large enough heads for use on crown molding.

If you don't want the hassel of filling and sanding the nail holes, use Locktite. I love the instant grab it gives even on large 16 foot crown and no filling or sanding holes.

23 gauge seems a bit fine for crown molding, I would use a finish nailer and 2" 18 gauge nails.

if you don,t have a 15 ga finish nailer for nailing your crown use your pin gun only use the 2" nails they should be 2 1/2" nails
