best way to clean toys and play mats after being sick?
My 11 week old is getting over RSV. I want to clean his play mats and little toys. There arent very many toys, just rattles and small items that he has touched. What is the best way to sanitize all of these items so that he does not get sick again? I do not want to use any harsh chemicals.

Stick the toys in the dishwasher and the mat in the washing machine. If the toys are too big soak in a bath with some bleach and scrub Or throw the lot in the bin!

Clorox bleach.. i saw it on a commerciall you put some in water let the toys sit there for 20 minutes.. and they are disinfected.. it is not harsh at all.. you can rinse.. dishes, toys dog bowls not rugs but for the toys u could..

I was watching a show (can't remember the name) but the lady used antiseptic mouthwash to clean/sanitize baby toys...like scope..She put some in a spray bottle (I believed she diluted it a little with water) and sprayed the toys and simply wiped them dry...Will kill the germs and safe for baby...Hope this helps :)

If you can, use your dishwasher, put them in the top rack. The hot water does a great job of cleaning all of the stuff that gets into the cracks of your children toys. The washing machine is a great idea for cleaning infant and toddler toys. It would be wise to place all of your toys in a mesh bag before putting them into the machine. The mesh bag will keep the toys together and it will prevent the smaller toys from getting stuck in your washing machine. You can add a little bleach to the water to kill the germs. Turn your washing machine on a light wash cycle. This method will clean and disinfect at the same time.

OHHH my son had RSV when he was a week old. It sucks...... There is a cleaning product from clorox I belive it is in a foggy blue or purple bottle. It is made for baby stuff. GREAT product and very safe. I am sorry I forgot the details....It should be at your nearest walmart. It will say it is for baby stuff and safe to use on highchairs (because the food goes there) Tyffannie

Use bleach and soak in the tub for like 20 mins and then rinse with cold water.

This may be to harsh and I`m sorry if it is. I put toys and such in the bathtub; use room temp water and about a cup full of bleach. I use enough water to cover the items. I let them soak for a while then air dry and rinse well. I suppose you could put some in the dishwasher but I do not know if they will be sanitized. Make sure you get the things in your house that get touched a lot; phone, keys, remote, door handles I`m sure you get the picture.

I would recommend filling a tupperware container with a solution of 1 part vinegar & 1 part distilled or filtered water & soaking the toys (if waterproof) for 30 mins. Give them a good rinse afterwards then let them air dry. I would avoid bleach & dishwashers (harsh chemicals & dirty water). I'm not sure about the mats. If the can be washed in your clothes washer, I would recommend a vinegar wash. Vinegar is a wonderful cleanser & disinfectant without all of the harsh chemicals.
