Today's Discussion

Am I responsible for a box of printed pocket calendars that I never ordered but someone in my co. signed for?
We received a box of pocket calendars with our company name (wrong anyway). Someone signed for them and put them away and now we can't find them. They sent the bill into collections but I can't get anyone from the printing company to proove that we ordered these calendars. They can't simply because no one ordered them. Am I on the hook for this invoice?

Ask for proof of order placement, the person who approved the order, your company purchase order number, a duplicate of the original invoice, and proof of delivery to your establishment. If you feel that a scam is being perpetrated, report it to the Attorney General of the state, Consumer Protection Division.

Legally, no, you are not. They are unsolicited merchandise. Signing to accept their delivery does not create an obligation to pay for unsolicited merchandise. Unscrupulous companies use this ploy to make money. Don't fall for it.

Is this a printer that you had work done at in the past? The company should be able to give you a PO# (if your company uses them). If not they should know the name of who supposedly ordered them. I work for a printer and I don't understand why they would have printed them without an order. The print business has been slow so it is waste of money for them. I would call the company and request to speak with their president to discuss. They should have had some backup before starting the job (ie: estimate with verbal approval, signed estimate, or email traffic). If it was a valid order they should have sent someone a proof to approve as well. It sounds strange... Did they come from an internet print place or a printer local? You might want to look them up with the BBB to see if simliar complaints have been filed. It needs to get straightened out so your company does not get a bad credit score for non-payment. Talk to the president of the company.

For me, those are the big three of you-pick crops, though many other people's calendars include apples, blackberries and green beans. I don't always manage to pick all three. The seasons don't start on a calendar; their schedules are set by nature.
