What are those antennas on top of utility poles for?
I live in the country and noticed small antenna-like thingees on top of the utility poles where the electrical wires are run. They are whitish gray single rods, less than two feet long. I could not distinguish a pattern to their placement. Are these used to identify where there are outages?

I THINK ITS A PROTECTOR,called lightning arrester

Kevin
They could be lightning arresting devices or fuse cutouts. Lighting arresting devices send the over voltage cause by strike directly to ground but fuse cutouts are whitesh gray rods about a foot long and the are used as over current protection, they don't distinguish outages, both of these are used as a source of protection for anything in the circuit to prevent outages

It could be many things as suggested by other answers. If you are sure they are antennas they usually are yagi antennas. They provide telemetric information such as load in the area… I hope this answers your question
