Is there Any DO It Yourself Friendly Heat Pumps?? Besides Portable A/c and Window Units?
I am dying from the heat, and I would prefer a heat pump if I could save money and do it myself. But most seem that you have to have special gauges and licenses/refrigerant to install. Is there any do it yourself friendly heat pumps? I don't like window units, and portable A/Cs aren't that great either. I've seen one by mitsubishi, but I dislike the large fan that has to be posted inside. I already have ductwork, and I just want something I can install myself.

You can get a split unit but that will not use your existing duct work nor will it do an entire house. You are right not to want to use a portable unit, they are not as efficient.

It issue it the refrigerant. By LAW, you have to be certified to work directly with the refrigerants used. A heat pump, by its nature, can't be made in a manner that it can be installed without working with refrigerant lines on site.
