Seriously, man, I can see this story leading on the evening newscast. I'm not sure this is something you want to try.

You Ask I Answer
If you have to ask these questions, you should not attempt to weld it. Yes, if your house has enough amps when you can use it to weld... your dryer circuit might have enough. You have to evacuate the tank to ensure there is absolutely NO gas in it... you need to take the top valve off as well. But if you dont already know all this... you should not be doing it yourself.

OH MY GOD ! you don't weld a propane tank. REPLACE IT! If you purchased propane from a company you call them and show them the problem. they will replace it if need to other wise if its a Bar B Q tank you need go to wal mart & buy a new one along with anything else you need. If you think you can't handle this project get someone that can. Your joking right? Good Luck!

I know you are just playing with this question. # 1 you will blow yourself up if you try to weld a propane tank. # 2 The gas company will never fill it again if you do weld it. # 3 If it actually did need repaired or replaced, the gas company would condem the tank and shut your gas off immediately until the tank was replaced. So just incase you're not playing, call the gas company and have them inspect the tank. They will deffinately NOT tell you to have it welded.

first of all are you stupid or easily led , NEVER EVER TRY AND WELD A PROPANE TANK , i take it your talking about a bulk tank in your garden as you dont own it its not your problem whoever told you to this is even more stupid than you or just pure bad youll blow yourself up and probably 2 or 3 houses along with you , get in touch with your propane supplier and they will do a safety check on your tank , when you pay your gas bill along with the litreage used you pay a rental , so not your tank , its there tank so def dont touch it .

DO YOU HAVE A DEATH WISH....... all welding can blow that tank...electric uses an arc to weld two pieces together..... call your gas company or make sure your LIFE INSURANCE IS PAID UP...... don't try it.... you WILL DIE A PAIN FULL DEATH TRYING

Sounds like a hospital bed should be in order if this thought persists! Electric welding is electric flame and will ignite Any fumes or inflamable substances, same as acetylene torch Get a professional to verify this. Then buy a new tank! --a retired welder
