Is it safe to take sinus medicine (pseudoephedrine)when pregnant?

if your doctor says that it is ok then you can take it.

It's safe for the fetus to take it. I, personally, cannot take it, though, because it gives me heart palpitations.

Our opinions are irrelevant. Especially in a medical matter as this. Some people don't believe in any form of medicine during pregnancy while others do. If your medical professional has advised you that a particular sinus medication is safe to take, take it. Just follow the doctor's orders and don't take more than directed. Best of luck!

if you won't listen to your doctor, then why would you listen to anonymous strangers? are you really that stupid

This is a very good question. My OB gave me a list of medications that are ok to use during pregnancy and Sudafed was one of them. However, when I caught a cold, I went to my primary physician and she told me not to take it. She said that even though it's on the list, it's considered a class b medication. This means that this med has not been proven to be harmful or safe to use during pregnancy. So, I just chose not to use it at all. Good luck and feel better!

My doctor says it is safe, I have taken it a couple times and I am 19 weeks and baby is fine

No, it's not. Any decongestants can restrict the bloodflow to the baby. I had a horrid cough at about 3 months pregnant and unfortunately couldnt' take anything for it. I called TeleHealth first to ask and she said no, then i went right into the doc and she said no. Both for the same reason.

No, it's technically not safe to use pseudoephedrine (it is used to make methanphetamines) however, your dr will tell u that anything u absolutely need is safer than not taking it at all, and in moderation it will probably be ok. The good news is that Sudafed no longer contains pseudoephedrine, nor does anything else u can buy OTC any more due to new laws (which also applied to some medicines containing alcohol). Also do not take anything that is an antihistamine/allergy formula. For a head cold/upper resp infection u can take: Ornex (decong) Sudafed, the new formulas (decong) Robitussin, the kind w/ out alcohol Cepacol or Chloraseptic drops, gargles, sprays, strips Tylenol, reg or xtra strength Antacids etc., anything well known (Pepto, Gaviscon, Tums, etc.) is ok Also, don't take Aspirin, Advil, or Nuprin
