Why would the pulley on the alternator of my 1995 Mercury Sable fall off?
The belt was still in tact but the smooth center pulley dislodged from the unit and elted into the winshield wiper fluid holder. This all happened while I was driving. I noticed a rattling sound then saw my battery light go on then noticed the temperature was way hot.

the installer used the same epoxy adhesive that was used to hold the ceiling cement slabs during the construction of the "Big Dig Project Tunnel" in Boston Massachusetts. Try Elmer's glue it may last longer. good luck

sometimes when you buy an alternator they don't come with the pulley.so you have to remove the old one and put it on the new one.if that's the case then it probably wasn't tightened up properly.if it was the original alt or a used one then all i can say is freak accident
