Is it safe to use GLASS WOOL contained clothing or bedding (like quilt) for your baby or your self?
I know some times glass wool is used in clothing or bedding industry to have warmer feeling... But is it safe? I know some times glass wool is used in clothing or bedding industry to have warmer feeling... But is it safe? (articles say It's safe if it's used as insulation in your buildings, but how about using in clothing or bedding?)

If you are asking this question then you know it is not safe. Glass wool is the same as spun glass....should not even be on the market anymore.

Here's a Health Canada site about it.

Glass wool is similar to steel wool. It is simply very thin strings of glass arranged into a spongy texture. Glass wool is used widely as an insulating material. A 2002 summary by International Agency for Research on Cancer puts insulation glass wool into Category 3 carcinogen, "not classifiable as to its carcinogenicity to humans". The summary found "inadequate evidence" of glass wool causing cancer in humans and "limited evidence" of it causing cancer in experimental animals. Two unspecified "large" studies reviewed in the summary showed "increased mortality" (6% in the "US cohort study") from respiratory cancer in workers exposed to glass wool production. The longevity of exposure did not affect mortality. Unspecified "studies" reviewed by Health Canada have shown that short time exposure to glass wool may cause minor irritation of skin, eyes, nose and throat. May experiences, itchiness, redness, sore throat, cough, laboured breathing and hoarseness. According to Health Canada, glass wool exposure does not present health risk to general population.

I have to hope that no glass wool product is used in clothing or quilts as it sheds little fibers that are irritating. If I saw that I product I was considering had glass wool or fiberglass insulation, I would not purchase it, not for safety, but because I have itched and washed down too many times handling insulation in the attic.
