Quilt pattern?
I need ideas for what pattern to use in a quilt I am getting ready to make. It needs to be a fairly quick project. I am using airplane fabric so the pattern needs to be large enough to show off the airplanes. Any suggestions?

A rail fence block pattern or log cabin pattern are both easy and quick. You can alternate a plain arplane block with the blocks put together with coordinating fabrics. Check a quilting book for diagrams- most libraries have them if you don't want to buy one. THere is a great pattern in the Sept. 2002 issue of McCalls Quilting Quick Quilts.

Have you ever tried paper piecing? If you have, there's an airplane block at Quilter's Cache. It might look cute to do an airplane block in airplane fabric. The block is 8", but you could easily redraft it to 12" or even 16" - the bigger the block, the faster the quilt (and the larger the area the fabric would be visible). If you'd rather not do that, try using it in the center of a block that has a larger center square - the sawtooth star, the Ohio star, a picture frame, the shoofly. Or you could use the airplane fabric in a snowball block, which just has small pieces sewn to the corners to "round" it, then alternate it with another block that has similar size corner pieces, like the shoofly or churn dash. Good luck - sounds like it will be great quilt!
