Today's Discussion

do they make an am radio signal amplifier to get am stations from out of state?
my dad used to listen to a radio station in las vegas that had a program called the wake up america on kdwn radio, but the show moved to phoenix, az and we dont get the station its on, kfnx 1100 am, by the way we live in lancaster, ca 400 hundred miles away from phoenix. we were wondering if they make an amplifier for am that will enable us to recieve that station.

Depending how much back yard you have, you can set up an array aerial. When I was a boy, we used the old fashioned clothes line as an antennae. Best we got, was a signal 2000 miles away. That is without spending a dime.

That's a long way. There is an antenna booster called "Select-A-Tenna" made by Intensitronics (below) but I don't know if it will pull in a station from Phoenix to Lancaster. Your best bet is to listen online at -a guy named duh

yes there is a thing called a select-a-tenna,.....not sure if i spell the name right,.....but it is sold by the c.crain company, out of fortuna California,.....i live in Oregon and i have one,.....i can hear kdwn at night it comes in clear with the select-a-tenna,.....it is the size of a big dinner plate, no wires to hook up, just put it next to the radio, and dial it in to the station you want to hear,.....like magic, you can hear the station, i have listened to stations all the way from AZ. from Oregon at nights using this,.....hope this helps,.....

select a-tenna is good to a point... Now a days with so much interference from the many radio stations on the Am broadcast band at night, unless the station is aiming a bit of the signal toward your general area and are putting out some fair amount of power (say about 5000 watts minimum at night) you can almost forget about them Take Duh's answer and listen online.. about the best and clearest way.
