Today's Discussion

What do you think of the direction that religious art seems to be taking?
Contemporary religious art competitions are everywhere. I really like some of the contemporary work, including non-representationalism, but some of the other work seems to me to be pointless and lazy. Do you think everyone is too caught up in trends and are in some cases losing their "artistic eye" ? Or do you disagree with that? Does the Emperor have no clothes?

It is my uninformed opinion but observation that art of this catagory has always been to the far right but is often seen from the far left,.....seen from the artist's eye?..it "is bang on dead center& righteous" artists including myself are alot like buttholes,....we all have one, I'm more partial to the smell of my own "odors" if you will or "fancifications" and the sculptures thereof.......Islaam sees Da Vinci as what?...or Michaelangelo as ?...we all see depicitions by Arabic artists as what?...Bhuddists as? Hindu?, Kush?.Jews?.Christians?.........I just think of it as art and realize that it is an expulsion of someone's gaseousnous!......some like the smell of curry,......some?.lemons and limes,....others?....chilis and onions,.......I am just glad I can still see for the moment. I let the little ol lady with all the cats live with her cats and meow all she wants..........behind her own doors,.......and the proper question to follow might be instead of "does the emperor have no clothes?...to follow...is the emperor well hung or is that thing a carving?.......or........"is the emperor really the queen?"..........poor emperor!

i think were at a period of time where most artist are highly political b.c of the war and everything we see in the media. i disagree with artist being lazy of course no one is going to take the time to do a huge master piece on religious things it's been done...plus there's a wide range of mediums i.e technology that can create art work in shorter time.
