What You Should Look for in Beginner Rug Hooking Kits

rug hooking kits

If you are looking for beginner rug hooking kits, it is important to know and understand what types of supplies should be included in one. In all actuality, it has been determined that rug hooking is one of only a few craft hobbies that you can start in without having to worry about investing a lot of money upfront.

In order to optimize your start, you should consider purchasing one of the many rug hooking kits that are available on the market today. The first thing that you should look for is a hook. Every kit should have at least one. While there are many to choose from, a standard one that is medium in size is appropriate.

When searching among all those rug hooking kits, it is important that you select one that includes a frame. This will be used to hold the backing of your project tightly so that you may focus on the actual process of hooking. The next essential is a pair of scissors. Those that are designed for projects that involve embroidery are often the best.

Be certain that the scissors have a bent handle. This will make working with them much easier. Last, but not least, you should have some fabric to work with. The best for a beginner is wool and possibly even linen. If you are shopping among all the rug hooking kits, be sure that they include these basics!

Where can I buy 'manly' latch hook rug kits?
My little brother (16) got a couple latch hook rug kits for Christmas, but is bummed that he can't seem to find many 'manly' patterns, he wants to do WWII planes in particular. What I want to know is where I can buy those for him.

I don't know how many "manly" kits you are going to find. They may exist, and if they do the internet is probably going to be the best place to start searching. On the bright side, you can make your own latch hook patterns! The canvas can be purchased online or in some craft stores. Making the pattern is as easy as drawing the design you want on graph paper and transferring it to the canvas. There are tutorials for this online. There are also programs that are designed for creating knit or crochet patterns for images from photos. You could use one of these to turn your photo into squares that you could then graph out and latch hook instead. Making the pattern and choosing the yarn colors will take up plenty of time to keep your brother occupied and give him even more control over what he is making. If your brother has an interest in latch hooking, he might want to take up something like knitting or crochet as well. Both of these crafts can be used to make even more useful items than the average latch hook kit is going to produce. Knit or crochet will allow him to make accessories he can wear, clothes, toys, and decorative items.
