Choosing Solid Wood Office Furniture for Style and Durability

solid wood office furniture

When it comes to furnishing an office, nothing beats the durability and eye appeal of solid wood office furniture as opposed to furniture made with materials such as medium density fiberboard covered with a thin layer of veneer.

This type of furniture is the most durable type which you can buy due to the fact-as the name implies-it is made of solid wood such as oak, maple, cherry, or pine with no fillers such as fiber or pressboard.

Another advantage of solid wood office furniture is that it can be left in its natural state or stained with any color you desire to match your existing furniture however; there are a few things you should consider before purchasing your furniture which pertain to the different types of wood. Oak and cherry are the heaviest and most durable of all however, they are much more expensive than pine which is softer but can be scratched or indented easily.

Maple is a good choice when it comes to affordability as it only slightly less sturdy than oak and just a little lighter in color, but can be stained darker if so desired. You can comparison shop online at internet stores such as Amazon.com where you will find many different styles of solid wood office furniture to choose from allowing you to select what best suits your needs.

How to take care of solid wood office furniture?
I have an office in my house, it was set up few years ago and I noticed a couple of scratches on it. Any tips on how to remove them? I also noticed some water marks on my table (there's always someone putting a cup of Coffee on it without cushions). Any tips on how to remove that? Thank you

It's called a wife. They aren't cheap. Get one. EDIT- Sounds like Michael down there would make a great wife. Maybe you two could hook up.

Soapy mild water usually does the trick on regular cleaning. Before aplying to the whole surface, test the liquid on a small unseen section first. After applying, dry it with a soft cloth. Try to wax your furniture every six months. Also, vacuum it to pick any dust or dirt. Water marks are a tough nut, try this: place a blotting sheet over the mark and iron it out. As for scratch removal, here's a tip from a Wood Furniture FAQ: ''Dark wood finishes can be treated with show polish or crayon that matches the wood. Cherry finishes can also be treated with shoe polish or darkened iodine applied with cotton buds or a thin paintbrush. Light wood can be treated with iodine watered down by 50%.''
