A Door for your Wine Cellar

A Door for your Wine Cellar

Choosing a wine cellar door can be difficult, especially when you take into consideration just how many of them there are. For instance you could choose the ornate Tuscan style door, or you could choose something a little more conventional like a standard eco door.

If you really want to go all out you could choose a glass door, but this should only be done if you actually want people to see into your wine cellar from the outside.

For instance you might have a great looking setup within that you are proud to show off. In that case the glass wine cellar door would be a perfect choice. These doors can be arched or they can be square, but bear in mind that they can get very expensive. Some of the better doors can range in price from $2000 to $3000.

Note that a wine cellar is not always a basement. It can be an above ground room or it could even be a cabinet that you keep in your kitchen. It really depends on what you want and how much room you have in your house. In any case, choosing a wine cellar door may not be the easiest thing in the world. With that in mind, try to choose one that matches both your tastes and the design of your house.

We ordered and installed this wine chiller six months ago and we are greatly enjoying it. My only wish is that there was a way to lock the controls. They are so sensitive, that any random touch can change the settings, and even turn the unit off. ... Read More

Today's Discussion

How to install an opener on a heavy *in-floor* door leading to the (wine) cellar in a historic home?
My girlfriend's early 1800s house has beautiful hardwood floors. In one section, the floor opens, revealing stairs that lead to the small cellar area. Obviously, all of the hinges/hardware are hidden; it just looks like a hardwood floor, except for a small brass ring that you use to lift the door. The problem is that this door (with the hardwood on top) is large and heavy; and lifting 70 lbs by a brass ring with two fingers is not only painful, it's hard on the back too. I have photos and can get exact dimensions; but I would estimate 4 feet by 8 feet and 70lbs. I have searched the Internet for spring, pneumatic, hydraulic and electric devices. Some do exist, but certainly nothing marketed specifically for a residential hardwood floor door, where everything must fit underneath. I don't think there are enough of these doors around anymore to make it worthwhile to market an opener for them. Thoughts? Thank you. Jason

Gas struts are the answer. They are available from many outlets. Just enter Gas Struts in search engine. They come in many strengths and suppliers given the weight and position where you want to put struts will work it out for you. I would have looked it up for you but don't know what country you are in
