The Old Wood

wood office desks

If you haven't noticed, many offices have gone modern. They have adapted the steel and glass policy, leaving little room for antiquity. Perhaps you want to fight this change and maybe, just maybe you want to keep a small sample of the way the world used to be.

A wood office desk would be a great way to reflect that and luckily there are still many different choices when it comes to getting one.

When you decide to buy one of these great desks you will first need to decide what size you want. There are small desks and then there are desk that can fill an entire office. Let's face it; some wood office desks are built to be downright imposing. What you basically have here is an opportunity to choose a desk that reflects your personality.

If you need security you'll have to get a desk that actually has security features such as a lockable file drawer. In some cases though you may want to get a desk with a sort of secret compartment. That may be a bit more costly, but when it comes to your security you don't want to take any risks. Chosoe the wood office desk that is right for you.

Today's Discussion

how can i tell what the value of an old wood office desk is ?
mom, bought it at a garage sale, not sure what kind of wood it is ? i took photos of it, but am not sure who to send the photos to, to figure out if it has any possible significant value, poked around google, but didn't really find any leads, email the photos to a consignment shop, they just told me to clean it up, repeatedly, and gave me a value, based on nothing i could tell made sense, eg if it is solid wood, and high quality wood seems the value might be high. thanks for any idea

first thing is don't clean it up. did you look for any names on the desk like pull out the draws and look under them to see if there are any names there. flip it over it might be there.and if you find a name or brand maybe you can find it on the net. i hope that helped

I don't know what you mean by a "high value" but the odds are that it will not be much more valuable than a new desk. Only desks with historic value or from the 16th century or older are likely to have much value. If it is a Stickley desk similar to the one on this site then it might have some extra value. Have you simply done a search for "antique desks for sale" You can get an idea of what your desk looks like compared to some on the web.
